Erythromycin Eye Ointment

This is an antibiotic often used to treat bacterial eye infections.

How to Use

  • Wash your hands.

  • Do not wear contact lenses during the course of therapy.

  • Do not allow the tip to touch any surface as this may contaminate the ointment.

  • Use your finger to pull the lower lid down of the affected eye to make a pocket.

  • Squeeze the tube and apply a ribbon of ointment along that pocket.

  • Close the eye for about 30 seconds. 

  • The cap should remain on the bottle when not in use.

  • If you are using another medication in the eye, wait at least 15 minutes before applying.

  • Discard any unused drops after you finish your course of treatment by dropping off to the pharmacy.

Side Effects

The most common side effects include, temporary blurred vision (do not drive/operate machinery until you are sure you can do so safely), minor burning or stinging upon application

Storage

  • Store at room temperature 

  • Keep out of reach and sight of children

  • Keep tightly closed

  • Protect from freezing

  • Do not use it after the expiry date (the expiry date refers to the last day of that month)
